“It’s a given: Feyenoord is finally fun to watch again”

Pierre van Hooijdonk understands what a possible victory for the conference league in Rotterdam will trigger. For the first time since 2002, Feyenoord is back in the quarter-finals of the European tournament, and that makes a lot of noise among supporters, Van Hooijdonk knows as an expert.

Twenty years ago, the former striker won the UEFA CUP, defeating Dortmund Borussia in the final. The current Feyenoord must win the semi-finals after a 3: 3 draw in the Czech Republic against Prague Slavia. “It can also be a great reward for the development of this team. Because it’s a fact: it’s finally fun to see Feyenoord again,” Van Hooijdonk told Algemeen Dagblad.

“As negative as I have been about the game in recent years, I’m so positive right now,” continues lyrical Van Hooijdonk about Arne Slot’s style of play. “I have never considered Feyenoord to be a real favorite, but this European tour could make the season very beautiful. When they reach the semi-finals, it will undoubtedly be an unforgettable evening in De Kuip.”

In 2002, Stadionclub triumphed in the quarterfinals against PSV and then played the final against Dortmund in Kuip. “These light poles, these dark grandstands, the noise: it’s a great experience. Yes, I can say that these European evenings in 2002 changed my life. These players, too, can experience it now.”
