Sports Director Klaas Lodewyck: “Warning has arrived at Remco Evenepoel”
Remco Evenepoel received a warning from the jury during the Brabantse Pijl because of a push towards Ben Turner. No, it wasn’t an assassination attempt, but Quick-Step’s talent was rightly reprimanded. “It shouldn’t happen again,” the team management said.
Evenepoel realized that the push was “not necessary”. He also apologized immediately to Turner, he said afterwards. “They played a team game and it’s obviously not fun for riders who want to continue at full speed, but it’s a race. I shouldn’t have done it. I’m sorry about that again.”
“It really shouldn’t happen again,” said sports director Klaas Lodewyck. “Remco wanted to win today. The force majeure of INEOS Grenadiers probably made him nervous. But I think that’s a fair warning from the jury. And Remco knows it’s not appropriate, even if it was just a slight sting.
Lodewyck immediately issued a warning to his driver. “And he told him he couldn’t afford to make more mistakes today. No, there was no answer, but it came. Now, right after the race, it’s not the right time, but I’ll definitely come back to it after that.
